In yet another episode in the continuing saga of the “F” word, conservative political analyst Ann Coulter used the slur last weekend, in her providing perspective on the slate of current presidential candidates, while speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference.
"It turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word ‘faggot,’ so I’m kind of at an impasse — I can’t really talk about (John) Edwards," she said.
There has been and will continue to be any number of editorials and blog postings about Coulter’s comments What I found to be a fresh look at the issue was a reader comments page on DiversityInc.com.
This publication boasts readers from a diverse cross section of races and cultures.
Many of the comments take aim at Coulter, some being very personal attacks in themselves. There was even a letter that noted the U.S. Constitution as support for whatever anyone – including Coulter – says to be free speech.
In a time when we’ve seen media, analysts and celebrities comment on this recent phenomenon of the “F” word, these letters are an interesting insight from everyday people we may not often see in this debate — people who aren’t in media and aren’t political analysts but who are at the heart of this issue, our audience as communications professionals.
Everyone has a right to free speech, but I am a little surprised the mainstream media continues to let you have Coulter have the forum to spew her hate to sell books.
