As you may know, this Thursday marks the first anniversary of the launch of our blog.
It’s an honor for me to be a voice on these pages. The LGBT community and healthcare have been two longstanding areas of interest of mine, and the opportunity to publish what has become a regular column is refreshing and exciting. It takes me back to the days when I was writing full-time. Thank you for coming here to read our work.
When I think of this blog, and FH Out Front in general, what comes to mind is a sense of teamwork: being part of a bigger whole made up of many talented voices. Behind the scenes, we are a democracy of people who want to communicate well about essential topics. Our blog exemplifies how PR agencies – and, in my view, the LGBT community – work best: as a focused team.
What’s it like to write for this blog? It’s a rush. My very first posting defended my former LGBT-related health writing against anti-gay propagandists. My most recent posting defended the right to be campy and beautiful at 30,000 feet. Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of hosting podcasts with a Hollywood casting director and the CEO of the AIDS service organization, GMHC. I’ve blogged about Matt Damon, Senator Larry Craig, and gay sheep.
I’m flashing on the old Madonna lyric, “One is such a lonely number.” I couldn’t disagree more. One is a thrill.
