This weekend we celebrated Pride in Austin which was hosted by the Austin Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. Pride Weekend consisted of an official kick-off dance hosted by allgo
with a circus theme, “Pride Under the Big Top.” The pride festival throughout the weekend featured vendors as well as live music in one of Austin’s most recognized music parks, Auditorium Shores. Finally, and quite frankly, my favorite, the Pride Parade lined up dozens of businesses, organizations and supporters for a stroll downtown which attracted hundreds of Austinites.
This was my second year to be a part of the parade. This year I saw more national corporations participate in the parade ranging from Wells Fargo to Aetna. Although nothing has officially been released about the size and draw of this year’s Pride Weekend, it definitely seemed larger than the last year’s. You can find pictures of the parade in the Austin American Statesman’s A-list.
It is always such a great feeling of accomplishment when the community gathers and lends their support and, businesses make a stronger connection with consumers when they interact with them in their local community’s backyard.
Pride month continues for the next couple of weeks and we will continue to write about the meaning and events around Pride Month. We encourage and welcome your anecdotes about your community’s Pride events.
